MLA CE Week 8

I looked at the programmableweb.com site and found a mashup for Prague 360. I will be there a year from now on a trip with the Colorado Symphony Chorus. We'll give a concert in their concert hall, as well as concerts in Budapest and Vienna. It is interesting to explore the city online first!

The Searchroll entry I looked at was on David Rothman's blog. The entry talked about Microsoft's Health Vault, a patient-created personal health record site. You can put all your health information there without privacy worries. David quoted Microsoft's privacy policy and provided a link to a more complete version. This might provide a way for physicians to gain a better understanding of a patient's symptoms and disease process, especially when time face to face in the office is so limited these days. But if I put myself in the role of a patient, I would be nervous about putting such personal information on the Internet, no matter how much they say it is protected!

MLA CE Week 7

YouTube is fun! Since I owned a cat for many years, I looked at "An Engineer's Guide to Cats". Two guys with three cats demonstrating cat behavior and quirks - very funny.

Podcasting could be used in the library to introduce new resources or to demonstrate by tutorial.

MLA CE Week 6

Here is a photo of Bushart Gardens on Vancouver Island. I've managed the upload, but not from Kodak EasyShare Gallery, where I was able to rotate it. I had to load from my computer and don't see how to do anything here but change the size. Sorry. I did get it loaded on Facebook.
There is actually a video tour of my library on our corporate web site at www.exempla.org. If we had a web site for our library alone, we could put photos of activities, new books, new databases, journals, etc.

MLA CE Week 5

I've worked for big corporations for several years and have become accustomed to the Microsoft Office suite. It's great to know that there are office tools readily available on the Web. It makes sense to think that the Web is the future home for software. The word "software" may itself become obsolete and have only historical significance.

MLA CE Week 4

Del.icio.us account established. It could be used to tag consumer health sites in place of the favorites bookmark list because of its potential to go long and deep with the tagging. This could replace my 3-ring binder. I also like it for personal use to research sites related to various interests.

MLA CE Week 3

I liked the Linkedin format because it is for professionals. It could be used to keep in touch with out-of-state colleagues. I think our library would find a wiki or blog more useful than a Facebook or MySpace page.

MLA CE Week 2

March 29, 2008 As you can see, I am having trouble keeping up. The link from the blog list to my blog works, but the link to my wiki does not. I don't see the "easy edit" button anywhere and don't know how to fix this.

Blogs are useful as a kind of personal diary of thoughts and activities. A wiki is more like a class discussion on a topic or idea.
